Maremma was the territory of Tuscany considered a bit like the far west. A nomansland with wild horses and boars. But in the past decades every inch of land has been bought up by Tuscan families in the north (and others) because this sunny landscape with remnants of Etruscan civilization has captured city-people and traditional winemakers for its non-traditional potential. This is the exact story of the family-owned Fattoria di Magliano which today is well-known for its high quality organic wines.
A pure Syrah from this coastal region of Tuscany, aged in French barrels, and could almost be labelled a new-world style old-world wine. Syrah being one of the great French grapes is by no means new to Italy, and has indeed found favorable ground in several parts of Tuscany. The wine has a deep dark fruitiness with spicey notes and liquorice.
