In this session, we'll give you an overview of the styles of wines you'll find throughout the Italian peninsula. Not easy to cover a whole country in just one wine tasting session, so of course we'll select iconic wines from the widely different regions featuring 6 drastically different grape varieties native to the different regions.
This class aims to give an initial approach to the wines of Italy, so really a great class for people who are travelling in Italy and who would like to open up their horizons towards this incredibly fascinating and complex wine country.
The wines that you are likely to taste:
a white from Veneto (e.g. Prosecco)
a white from Sicily (e.g. Grillo)
a red from Piemonte (e.g. Barolo)
a red from Campania (e.g. Taurasi)
a red from Puglia (e.g. Primitivo)
a dessert wine
Embark on a journey into the Italian world of wine, travelling from Italy's cool Northern regions where crispy white wines prevail from grape varieties that are only just being appreciated worldwide in this era.
We'll head to Piedmont famous for its elegant reds made from Nebbiolo grapes. Learn about the differences between Barolo & Barbaresco, and much more.
The centre, of which Tuscany is the protagonist, also holds other great regions for both whites and reds. Learn more about Verdicchio and Sagrantino.
The South and the islands of Sardegna and Sicily capture most sun hours and their wines feature the Mediterranean climate in each their unique way.
This class is for anyone interested in knowing more about Italy's wines. Please notice that this class does not cover the fundamentals of "how to taste" or "how wine is made" as the subject is too vast to cover these things also. This is, however, no restraint and anyone can still participate and get a lot out of the class.
Remember that all of our classes are in English, so no need to bring an Italian phrasebook! Our instructor is an Italian sommelier who speaks excellent English and who burns to impart knowledge!
